Scoundrels Begins Historic Month-Long Run on HotMovies

Cecil Howard's "Scoundrels"PHILADELPHIA - Two days after ABC debuted a new hour-long weekly TV show by the same name, Hotmovies.com will premiere the original, award-winning Scoundrels starting today for a limited window. Thus, 27 years to the month after its original release, Cecil Howard’s legendary masterpiece of adult cinema will make a new kind of history.

For the first time since the advent of Internet Video On Demand, a movie will run on planned limited release. Scoundrels, which won AVN’s first ever Best Film Award in 1983, as well as Best Director and Best Editing, will be available to the popular website’s viewers for one-month only, with no further distribution plans in the hopper.

“It’s an historic deal in so many ways,” said HotMovies director of business development James Cybert. “Here is the first movie to win the porn equivalent of a best picture Oscar, with a living legend in his first serious starring role, by the greatest adult director to have ever lived. Then, you take all that, and you have 30 days to watch it. You may never have this chance again. It’s a whole new way of doing things but we believe it’s worth it for this man and this movie.”

The movie – shot, like all of Howard’s earlier works, on 35MM film – stars HotMovies spokesman and porn all-star Ron Jeremy is his first non-comedic feature role, as well as Hustler covergirl Copper Penny in her lone foray into adult movies.

Jeremy said he relished working on Howard’s ambitious films because they aimed to be more than just porn flicks. “Back in those days, when you worked on his films, you worked maybe 10 days as an actor and then maybe one day of sex,” said Jeremy. “Wake up in the morning and feel like an actor that day…. That’s why it was called the golden age of porn—the early ’80s.” Read the rest of this entry »

Throwback Tuesday: Resurrection of Eve

throwback
Resurrection of EveWe haven’t done a “Throwback Tuesday” feature in awhile, we’re kind of busy building our porn empire.” But today’s feature is the classic Mitchell Bros. and Marilyn Chamber’s film Resurrection of Eve” and it goes without saying this is one film for the porn history books.

If Behind The Green Door was groundbreaking then “Resurrection of Eve” can best be characterized as pioneering. After the success of Behind the Green Door, audiences waited in anticipation to see what the Mitchell Brothers would do next. The result was “Resurrection of Eve”. It’s a story about a woman whose early life experiences leave her emotionally and sexually repressed. After a car accident nearly takes her life, Eve emerges as a different person both physically and psychologically and eventually comes to realize her true desires and develop her own self-worth.

Resurrection of Eve was very ambitious in its attempt at plot and character development and has no equal in the genre. It proved that the Mitchell Brothers initial success was not based solely on luck and it defined their vision for making sophisticated, thought provoking films about sex and sexuality

Throwback Tuesday: Love you to Death

Love You to DeathLove you to Death back

1971. 70m. Maria Aronoff. Dir: Lowell Pickett.

Director Lowell Pickett (Oona) delivers this hardcore mafia crime drama and makes good use of sexy sexploitation starlet Maria Aronoff in multiple XXX scenes. In true epic fashion the opening title pops up 8 minutes into the film after a nice introductory scene. The hard boiled dialog seems to be more fitting to a 1940′s B crime noir feature, but it fits the brute tone of this all but lost XXX mafia classic well. Despite a few inexplicable moments of zany humor, Love Me to Death is a hardnosed film which is still able to entertain and arouse decades after it was made!
